SmartProcure Saves Monroe County $50,000 On Tree-Trimming Project
SmartProcure is repairing the connective tissue of society by creating confidence in how government agencies spend our collective resources so that savings can be used on community priorities.
Director of Capital Improvement for the Housing Authority of Monroe County, PA Joe Ruggiero, recently used SmartProcure’s GovSpend platform to shop around for quotes for a tree trimming project. Director Ruggerio was able to see that a peer agency in a nearby county was already working with a tree-trimming vendor. From there, he was able to piggyback on the existing contract and lock in the same rate, ultimately saving Monroe County $50,000 as compared to the tree-trimming contractor previously under contract.
“Excellent tool that I’ll continue to use…GovSpend already paid for itself 10 times over,” Joe shared with us. Director Ruggerio’s experience is but one in a sea of daily procurement by the US Government, which spends $2-3 Trillion every year on a myriad of items needed in the daily operations of government, including, yes even tree-trimming landscaping services.

Unfortunately, public procurement data has historically been siloed such that government agencies even in the same department, city, county or across state lines have no idea what their peer agencies pay for the same products and services. This results in waste and redundancy wherein agencies may end up paying different prices for the same good or service.
